My earlier comment seems to have gone astray. I think you guys did a great job of condensing 30 years of research into 11 minutes. While you were talking about effort as being malleable, under stability, and as being controllable , under control, I did not see a distinction. Are they the same in this case?
Wow!!! This team’s efforts and abilities is out of control and must be regulated. Great job. Do you guy’s have this in a power point? Or can it be transferred to one. I would like to print out frames.
Nicely done! Thanks for the thorough explanation of effort and ability. I find it so fascinating that students learn to distinguish between effort and ability at such such a young age.
This was a terrific overview on effort and ability. Very pithy!! It caught my husband's attention as it was playing and sparked a great conversation. We talked about effort/ability in his work place as well as at my school, and of course related to our kids.
I love these things! Amy was right, Sundance it is!
I would like to think that I don't associate effort with ability, but I have to admit that with certain students, effort is definitely part of their ability!
I have to grade students differently based on perceptions of effort and ability. I see special education as part of this. Te Special Ed students have their IEPs that have different goals written in them. English Language Learners face this issue too.
I am "afraid" to reward students for their behavior - even if it should be done. I have a student who will not perform unless he thinks that he will "get" something out of it. The good thing is that he views praise as high on the list of things that he wants. Instead of trying to increase his overall effort, he tends to shut down when he is not being acknowledged.
I liked the reflection questions at the end! Nice touch!
